bodhirose: Thank you all for your encouraging remarks. This drum circle is sponsered through the fair trade store, Ten Thousand Villages, one of which is in my town. It was guided by this bright, beautiful spirit named Jason who leads groups of people of all ages and experience. His drumming teachings help with team building (he had gone to the elementary school where my sister works and led a drumming session there), stress relief, cultural enrichment and just having fun. I don't really know much about drums but these looked like typical African drums (djembes ?). The store and Jason provided all the drums for everyone or you could bring your own. He led us in simple rhythms and had us "copy" what he did. And at one point, he went around the room to everyone and had us do a "solo" and then had the group repeat our "beat". A little intimidating for this first timer but exhilerating too! We also learned a simple African chant/song which was beautiful. It was just a very cool way to join with a nice group of people. I know my sister and I will keep it up. Love and peace, Gayle
