patriwind:
thank you for your answers... i meditate regularly... i just find myself stuck with what word to use instead of god when i want to ask for guidance as i don't believe in an actual god but in the creative intelligence... your answers are quite useful... love to all :)
Kristen Thurman:
Ask Spirit for guidance and wait for the answer with Gratitude!

Hi, P! Soo, the Source who is the One who creates us all hears everything we think and feel. So, in effect, everything we think and feel is a prayer -- which does lead to a good question, as in, what are we praying for?! Any sincere thought, especially felt in your heart, where it is amplified, is a wonderful prayer offered up to God, who hears and responds!!
If you'd like to think of other words to use in place of God, some may be the Universe, Source, Creator, One. If you want to think of a Being, but don't want the associations of a God already perceived to have certain qualities, you may pray to angels & archangels (always non-denominational), or take your pick of any Divine Being from any culture who is Loving and friendly... Meditation is a form of prayer, without some of the Western connotations...
Doreen Virtue's Archangels & Ascended Masters is a great reference book if you'd like to learn more about some different Beings you'd like to pray to!
I'm sure that's a great start on some information! Good luck to you!! Julie
Lauren Ashley:
Have you tried meditation? Prayer is a form of meditation, but meditation in a general sense allows you to shape the experience in any way you want.
Here are my recommendation for great meditation starters:
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Short Meditations (surprisingly wonderful!)
Quiet Mind, edited by Susan Piver (contains a cd with a mix of beginning meditations)
(found both of the above at my library)
DailyOm offers an online course for Learning to Meditate (pick your price)
May the force be with you!
