Our happiness is directly proportional with our emotional freedom. Without emotional freedom, we have no choice in the mental state we become trapped in. In essence, we are doomed to repeat the same emotional mistakes that become habitual to us as breathing--whether it is reacting with anger to criticism, getting inexplicably depressed, or feeling anxious when things are going well.
How, then, can we achieve the highest state of emotional freedom to break out of these self-destructive cycles that continuously sabotage our peace of minds?
I can't think of a better person to ask this question than Intent Voice Dr. Judith Orloff, who is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA and the best-selling author of several books that explore the intersection of tradtitional medicine, spirituality, intuition, and physical and mental healing. Emotional freedom, as Judith defines in our conversation, is "the ability to have a choice about how do you react; to breathe and center yourself instead of reacting when your button are pushed."
This state of mind also happens to be the central subject to her newest book--"Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself from Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life", which has already been on the New York Times best-seller list since its release earlier this year. Filled with anecdotes, quizzes, and sections divided by the common negative emotions that give people the biggest challenge (depression, anxiety, envy, anger, frustration, bitterness, etc.), Judith's book is a superb collection of psychological strategies that aim to strengthen our spiritual and mental muscles against negativity.
In our conversation, Judith speaks about the inspiration behind her book, how we can use our subconscious dreams to find the answers to our biggest life questions, and why anger is the most difficult emotion for many people to accept. More importantly, Judith offers to all of us a starting point to begin our personal transformation--no matter what type of emotional person you are, or what type of negative emotions you tend to attract the most.
Judith's intent is "to be emotionally free and to work with intuition; to be able to transform anger, fear and hatred so I can be the change that I want to be so much." I hope Judith's conversation and her book, which all of you should buy, will inspire you to formulate your own intent that will begin your own unique path to emotional freedom.
