Brief Description: Eastern philosophies have long taught that life is a dream, and Western esoteric wisdom has held that life is an illusion. Nevertheless, most of us go on living as if our life experiences were real. What good does it do us to know that life is a dream or an illusion?

Life As A Waking Dream is a unique method of uncovering the deeper meaning of life. Everyday experiences are viewed as messages from the real Self, giving instruction and guidance that tells us what life skills we need to develop, what qualities we need to cultivate in our self-expression, and what new choices we need to make to bring greater harmony to our lives. By studying our life experiences as if they had been dreams, we uncover the keys to more creative and powerful living. Some of those keys are identifying a clear purpose, developing a strong sense of self, learning to recognize and cooperate with the yin and yang polarities of energy, and interpreting symbols that appear in our waking dreams. With practice we can learn how to live more lucidly and even how to wake up to the reality behind the illusion. You don't have to remember your sleeping dreams to do this form of dream-work!!

Format: Life As A Waking Dream can best be presented in a workshop format where participants can try out the method with one of their own experiences. However, it can also be demonstrated in a lecture format, and a presentation of two or two-and-a-half hours can also be used as an introduction to a longer workshop that follows. One possible format would be a special Friday evening presentation of two or two-and-one-half hours, followed by a Saturday workshop. We are open to other suggestions that fit in with your customary way of presenting special programs.

Target Audience: Those who seek deeper meaning in their lives. Those who want to create new realities in their lives. Those who do dream work. Those who want to do dream work but have trouble remembering their sleeping dreams. Students of the ancient wisdom and esoteric studies. People helpers, therapists and healers of all kinds. Those who want to awaken to reality.

Previous Experience: Diane Kennedy Pike and Arleen Lorrance have been group facilitators, teachers, trainers, consultants and speakers for the past 24 years all across the United States and in Canada. They began their work in 1972, disseminating the six Love Principles to teach people how to live in universal and unconditional love. Through lectures and experiential workshops they have given practical experience and guidance to thousands of people. They have taught Life As A Waking Dream in correspondence courses for the past ten years, as well as in workshops and demonstration lectures. They also offer intensives in the form of trainings for Life As A Waking Dream teachers and a program in consciousness development called The Theatre of Life. In recent years they have been Consciousness Consultants for organizations, specializing in leadership development, and Consciousness Coaches for individuals. Their nonprofit organization is called Teleos Institute, centered in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In July of 1997, the book Life As A Waking Dream will be published by Riverhead Books. Pike and Lorrance are eager to make presentations of the Life As A Waking Dream method in conjunction with the release of the book.

FROM THE JACKET OF THE BOOK LIFE AS A WAKING DREAM:

What stories do you find yourself telling again and again? Which experiences remain most vivid in your memory? What episodes evoked powerful sensations and emotions?

The answers to these questions are the keys that will help you begin to discover your waking dreams. For many years, dream analysis has enabled people to identify elements and themes that guided them I deciphering the hidden messages of the unconscious world of sleep. In a startlingly original method, based on wisdom teachings and influenced by Jungian psychology, Diane Kennedy Pike develops and expands traditional dream analysis to help us make sense of the "waking dreams" of our lives. Through the stories of waking dream group participants, she reveals how examination of your vivid life experiences can help strengthen relationships, enrich creative vision, and lend meaning to everyday life. Finally, a way for those who cannot remember their dreams to tap into the wisdom and insight of dream analysis.

"This book is great! We must find the connections between our interior life and the external world, and this book shows us how." -- Michael Murphy, founder of Esalen Institute and author of Golf in the Kingdom and Future of the Body

"Many times when analysands say to me that they have had no dream, I reply, 'Then let us analyze what you said at the breakfast table or what you did when you entered your office.' I see, as I read your work, how I could do this even more creatively. Thank you." Marion Woodman, Jungian Analyst and author of Addition to Perfection and the Ravaged Bridegroom
