The energy field around the human body, popularly called the human aura, can be visualized using a new scientific instrument based on digital Kirlian photography developed by Russian physicist, Dr. K. Korotkov. This presentation will give the history of the vital force and aura, discuss scientific measurements of the aura, and show pictures of the human aura under various conditions in health and disease.

The presentation will begin with an introduction to the science of subtle energy-the concept of the vital force, qi, ki, prana-it goes by many names. Most of alternative medicine including homeopathy, chiropractic, classical osteopathy, and Oriental medicine are based on the concept of vitalism: the belief in an organizing energy field or vital force that maintains health and mobilizes healing in the body. In relation to this, Dr. Rubik just obtained a 3-year research grant from NIH (National Inst. of Health) to study the human biofield-the scientific word for the vital force, and will briefly describe how, as a biophysicist, she got involved in this maverick area of science and medicine.

The technology behind the new Russian scientific instrument-known as the GDV (gas discharge visualization) camera---will be explained briefly. It will be shown how the aura of the whole human body is calculated from the patterns of light emitted by all 10 fingers when high voltage is passed through them. These calculations are made using software that stores the data from thousands of patients measured in Europe and Russia over decades, in which the aura pattern associated with various organs and diseases was correlated.

The computer generated auras of the front and sides of the body can be compared or analyzed using computer software. The color, brightness, density, size, and fractality of auras can be calculated and quantitatively compared. This will be shown for a study on qigong, whereby it was found that beginners greatly enhance their auras after a single qigong workshop.

Auras change in relation to altered states of consciousness, certain thoughts, certain medical interventions, and diseases. Auras for the following states and conditions will be shown: meditation, hypnosis, yoga, qigong, lovemaking, acupuncture, laying-on-of-hands by healers, pain, depression, psychoactive drugs, and certain disease states such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and acute injury.

The energy distribution in the organs and also in the chakras can also be calculated from the auras. This will be shown for a variety of subjects in altered states of consciousness and after doing qigong and yoga, and after including certain alternative medicine interventions that drastically alter the energetics of the human being.

By means of scientific aura analysis, we can evaluate our starting points and also monitor changes in our subtle energy before and after any experience. Changes in the aura may be particularly useful in assessing the value of a therapy or behavior on the bioenergetics and health of a person.

Dr. Rubik has had a lifelong interest in energy healing, and will share some of her research on healers. There are particular patterns of emission often associated with healers' performing laying-on-of-hands or external qi. Some examples of energy healers' auras and how they transform after doing healing work will be shown.

If time permits, at the end of her presentation, Dr. Rubik will make a live demonstration of scientific aura analysis on a volunteer.

Dr. Rubik will be available for individual consultation by appointment the following day to measure and analyze your aura. You will receive colored computer prints of your aura, a diagram showing the flow of energy in your organs and tissues, and a diagram showing the flow of energy in your chakras. She will work with you one-on-one to explain what your aura reveals.
