Welcome to Intent.com!
Intent is a community where members can share their dreams and aspirations, and receive support from others to turn those dreams and aspirations into reality. This is your online destination for turning your intention into tangible action, and inspiring others to do the same.
Why Share An Intent?
We truly believe in the power of intentions. After all, every action starts with an intention. When we share an intention with others, we make ourselves feel more accountable for the mission we want to complete. When you know what your intention is AND you can state it to others, then you are more likely to make the initiative to make your aspiration come true.
Why Join This Community?
Social media and social connections have the power to change our lives. Statististical research shows that a person with a happy friend is 15% more likely to be happy; a person with a happy friend of a friend is 10% more likely to be happy, and a person with a happy friend of a friend of a friend is 6% more likely to be happy.
Here at Intent.com, everyone in the community is interested in achieving their positive intentions--whether it is to run a marathon or to help end world hunger. And what better way to find the inspiration to make your dreams a reality than to connect with other people who are interested in sharing their positive intentions?
What Can You Do On Intent.com?
As a community member of Intent.com, you can:
- Share your intents with other commuity members

And A Final Word..
We want Intent.com to be your online community where you feel supported for pursuing your dreams, aspirations and life goals. We also believe that if more people share their positive intentions every day, the world will truly be a better place.
So don't be shy with sharing your intentions! Your intention may resonate with another community member, who may then feel compelled to take action in his or her life. Continue the ripple effect of positive intentions by inviting your friends and family to join this community, too.
Let the intending begin!

Intent.com Home Page Quick Guide

Intent.com My Home Quick Guide

What does the 'report abuse' button do?
If you are reading a blog and someone leaves a comment that is offensive, please click the 'report abuse' ink on the comment you would like to report. An email is sent immediately to Intent support for review. If you have done this by accident, no worries- happens all the time. If there is no abuse on the page, we just figure it was an accident.
How do I edit or delete my blog?
First, go to your profile. Then click the blog tab in the top center of your page. Last, click 'Edit' on the blog you would like to edit. To delete, place a check mark next to the blog you would like to remove, and click the orange 'Delete' link right under your most recent user comment.
How do I insert a YouTube video into my blog?
While composing a blog, you can insert a YouTube video by clicking the 'Insert/Edit YouTube' button- immediately to the left of the 'Source' button on your blog editor. If you roll your mouse over the button, it will show a yellow tag telling you it is the YouTube button.
How do I insert a photo into my blog?
Our system currently does not allow members to upload pictures directly from their computers. We encourage you to check out this helpful blog entry from the Intent Editor on adding photos to your blog.
How do I grow my Intent blog readership?
Adding friends is the best way to grow your readership. As you browse through other member's intents and their blogs, be sure to add the ones you resonate with as friends. Adding someone as a friend on a community such as this one is a nice way to say, 'Hello there!'. If the other member likes what they see, they will accept, and will have the option to receive e-mail notifications of your blogs and intents, and vice versa.
I added my intent, but it does not show up as my primary intent. How do I make it my primary intent?
1. Go to your Intents page.
2. Find the Intent you would like to make primary in your list of Intents, click on the text of the Intent to go to the view intent page(this is the page with comments and supports).
3. Click the 'Edit' link at the top of the page.
4. Put a check in the box for 'Primary' and 'Public' then click 'Submit' And you are done!
This will also fix your primary intent if you signed up and only see quotation marks.
How do I delete an Intent?
1. Go to your profile.
2. Use the Intents link on the top of your profile to get to your intents listing.
3. If the Intent you want to delete is a Private Intent use the link at the top to get a list of your Private Intents.
4. From the list find the Intent you want to delete and click on the text of the Intent to take you to the full Intent page for that Intent.
5. Use the 'Edit' link at the top of the Intent page, at the bottom of the edit page should be a like labeled 'Delete'. Confirm the delete and you are all set.
Is there a limit to the number of intents I can post within a window of time?
We don't have any restrictions on the number of intents you can post within a window of time. Whether you want to post one intent a day or one intent a week, that is completely up to you. However, we ask that you please respect basic intent etiquette by not hogging the intents blogroll with a lot of multiple intents. We would much rather see 5 different intents from 5 different community members on the live blogroll on the homepage than 5 intents from 1 community member to better reflect the diversity of voices represented in our ever-expanding community. For more Intent etiquette, click here.
I want to share my intents with my Twitter and Facebook friends. How do I sync my Intent account with my Twitter and Facebook account?
Read the tutorial here on how you can sync your Intent.com account with your Twitter and Facebook. This means that every time you post an intent, you can choose to have the intent automatically feed to your personal Twitter and Facebook feed, which all of your Twitter followers and Facebook friends can see.
What are friends on Intent?
Friends is a way for you to connect with other people on the site. Once you are friends, you will be automatically subscribed to their blogs, and will be notified when they add a new intent. Remember to support your friends! Upon sign up, Intent staff members are likely to send you a friend request so you have someone to direct questions to. Plus, we just really like all of your blogs and intents. :) We're fans.
A couple other notes on friends.
- Adding someone as a friend on Intent doesn't nessessarily mean you are friends in real-life. It is more or less a friendly way to say 'hi!' in the online social networking world.
- You do not have to be someones friend to send them a message, but you do have to be their friend to recieve notifications of their blogs and intents.
- If a friend is overwhelming you with blog and/or intent notifications, you can always remove them later.
How can I invite my friends, family and contacts to join the Intent.com community?
Simple: make sure you are logged into your Intent account and go to www.intent.com/invite and start inputting the e-mail addresses of people you want to invite. You can import your contacts from your e-mail address books, too.
How do I change my password?
To change your password, you must first be logged in. From there, go to your profile, and click 'Edit Account Info' on the left side of your profile.
I have tried to change my password, but the button to save will not work. What can I do?
It is possible you are using Internet Explorer 6. While we are working on compatibility with this browser, it may fix the issue to upgrade your browser, or to download firefox. Firefox, to date, is our most compatible browser. Internet Explorer 7 is also very compatible.
What is the difference between Intent Voices and an Intent Member?
Intent membership is free for everyone. As a member you have access to our front page under the 'our member blogs' section. The section updates in real-time as you blog. This is the method most users join Intent.
Intent voices are, in most cases, authors, well-known bloggers, and staff. Here are the current guidelines for an Intent Voice:
1. Generally, our Intent Voices are published authors. At the minimum, they are experts in their respective fields.
2. Write prolifically (2 or 3 posts per week).
3. Write in a way that goes directly and clearly to the heart of fulfilling specific, identifiable and common intentions (ie, not self-indulgent, not ranting, not meandering posts, etc.)
4. Be in alignment with Intent.com's vision, focus, ethos, and voice.
5. Be open to editing of their content at the discretion of Intent.
6. Be open to posting in media other than text (with our assistance)
7. Be willing to engage with the Intent.com community.
8. Intent Voice posts are of a quality and caliber that is magazine or book-worthy. The posts should have no grammar or spelling errors, and should address a specific issue or concern, aka, a "thesis."
If you feel you meet these criteria, you can email a submission to editor@intent.com. Due to the number of request we receive, we are only able to contact you if we choose to feature your content as an Intent Voice. Thanks!
How do I delete my profile?
We are sorry to see you go, but if you would like to be removed from the Intent community- please email support@intent.com with the request. Be sure to include your username. We are working on giving you the control to delete your profile. Coming soon.
I registered, but did not recieve a confirmation email, what do I do?
It is likely the confirmation email could have gone to your spam. If the email is not there, please contact support@intent.com, and we will straighten everything out for you right away.
I don't like having my real name show up on my profile. How do I change this?
If you are uncomfortable with having your real identity show up on search engines, simply go to "My Profile," click "Edit" and go to the "Personal Information" section. Replace your first and last name with an internet alias that you are comfortable to go by.
Can I change my username?
Yes, you can. E-mail support@intent.com with your old username and the new username you would like to change your account into. Your URL and username will change, but you will still have the same account settings and the same Intent relationships. Bear in mind, though, that changing your username will not delete your old username from our system. If you want your old username to completely disappear from our system, you will have to ask us to delete the profile for you.
All these e-mail notifications on new relationships and new intents are driving me crazy and clogging my inbox! How do I make them stop?
Easy. Simply go to your profile, click on "Edit" and go to your "Account Settings." At the bottom of the page, uncheck the notifications you want to stop receiving.
My photo looks distorted, how do I fix it?
Chances are your photo is too small, and our system is stretching it out. When this happens, your photo can look slightly distorted, or pixelated. To remedy this issue, choose a larger photo- as our system can shrink down a photo with no issues.
I tried uploading a new profile picture, and it's not showing up. What am I doing wrong?
First, make sure that your photo has a proper file extension, like ".jpg" or ".gif" and that it isn't too big. After you uploaded your picture, try clicking the "Refresh" or "Reload" button on your browser several times. If your new profile picture is still not showing up, try logging out, logging back in, and clicking "Refresh" again. If that still doesn't work, please e-mail support@intent.com with your username and your new profile picture, and we will manually get that fixed for you.
How do I subscribe to the Intent.com newsletter?
Go to the Intent.com homepage (www.intent.com). On the right-hand sidebar, you should see the box that says "sign up for our newsletter" with a space underneath to enter your e-mail address. Enter your e-mail address and click on "Go." Check the boxes to receive the Intent weekly newsletter and the Intent Of The Day newsletter.
What is the difference between the weekly Intent.com newsletter and the Intent Of The Day newsletter?
The weekly Intent newsletter is sent out once a week and contains a letter from the Intent Team with a round-up of recent popular blog posts, in addition to book recommendations and other exciting updates from the Intent community. The Intent Of The Day newsletter is sent out every weekday and contains a featured intent from an Intent community member, in addition to three articles related to the intent, three inspirational blog posts from around the web, and one recommended book.
I'm already subscribed to the weekly newsletter, and I want to subscribe to the Intent Of The Day newsletter. How do I do that?
Enter your e-mail address in the right-hand box "sign up for our newsletter" on the Intent.com homepage. Verify your e-mail address. You will see options to check or uncheck the different Intent newsletters you receive.
