I have decided to leave a bad marriage of 20 years where I have been married to a man who is full of anger and negativity. After many years of his refusal to change even with the aid of therapy both spiritual and medical I have made the conscious choice to no longer subject my children or myself to this life. My health has suffered and my children have suffered. We are on a path to renewal. I have found love that is pure and has the light of God surrounding it. The person who only sees exploitation, can't believe in non-violence. Fighting is the only natural human instinct that he can resort to so that those who exploit him take notice, so that his children and grandchildren can have a good life and talk non-violence when they grow up. You can talk non-violence today because someone before you practiced violence and created a peaceful world for you. Gandhi could practice non-violence because there were others who were using the violent way around him. The combination of violence and non-violence creates a favorable outcome. The world needs different philosophies. The balance is what works. No one philosophy can work in all situations, at all times. Do your own thing. But unfortunately I have a problem with this intent of yours. The problem I feel lies with the understanding of the relationship between keyword usage and mind imagery, mind imagery being a key factor in manifestation. In the use of terms like "Non-violence in thought" the mind disregards the negators and creates mind imagery based on the keywords, being violence and thought. The word 'violence' automatically triggers the feelings and memories we have associated with this and in doing so re-manifests it in our experience and therefore continues to perpetuate the current system of violence we live in.... My alternative would be: "to have at least 100 million people join me in expressing total love and acceptance in thought, speech and action asap" Also... the vow is relative to ones own definition of what violence is anyway. Some may not understand that the way we sometimes speak to others could be deemed as violent or cause a detrimental effect without even realising it. Until they understand the total effect of their words and actions the vow is pointless, especially the relationship between keywords, mind imagery, and manifestation as I said above. Dear Deepak, There was quite a dialogue going on here with some members regarding taking this vow. I had not heard of this vow so investigated and had two issues with it which I shared with others here. First, I didn't like the fact that it stated "there is no going back" once you take the vow. No going back to what? What can't you go back to? I brought up the fact that so many people take vows with the very best of intentions and break them. Such as marriage vows. Look at the failure rate there. People who take this vow will "fail" and then what? They will have the added burden of guilt and self blame, shame, etc., etc. because they did not keep the vow that Deepak Chopra enouraged them to take. Will all the negative feelings that will be created by the "failure" of keeping this vow effect you personally in a karmic sense? Also, I could not understand what getting two of your friends to take the vow has to do with the vow itself. The way it is stated says that part of the vow is that you have to get two friends to take it too. I don't get it. I'm not so sure the vow route was the way to go here in enouraging nonviolence. When we get angry, we should see in our minds our arms down or outstretched slightly, palms up. And, as we speak, we should visualize keeping our hands open, palms up all the while that we speak. I wrote a poem that addresses this; I Hear You I wish that I could hear my words, and feel the way those words might make me feel. If only I could hear them with the other person's ears a beat or two before they left my mouth. If I could feel the anger the embarrassment or pain, then, maybe I would never let them go.
