Getting Started with Meditation

 Question:

I recently read your e book on the seven spiritual laws, and I was wondering where I should start in order to apply these laws to my everyday life. I am unfamiliar with meditation, and I have never done yoga. So how do I go about it if I am lacking those skills? At this time, taking a classes prove to be difficult. any suggestions on how to get started at home
Answer:
The essence of all of the seven spiritual laws is self-knowledge. Self-realization will naturally unfold all of the principles of spiritual growth. So the best place to start is with a spiritual  practice that cultures  inner awareness. If you are not in a position to learn a meditation technique from an instructor, then you can always begin on your own with the So Hum meditation. In this meditation you gently bring your attention to your breath. As you breathe in, think the sound “so” silently. As you breathe out, think the sound “hum.” Sit comfortably with your eyes closed for 15-20 minutes while you do this every morning and evening. If your mind wanders away from your attention on the breath and sounds, don’t fight or struggle against it, but once you are aware your mind has drifted off, easily return to the process.
People generally  discover as the days and weeks of meditation go by that they begin feel more energetic, alert and positive in their life. The impulses of consciousness that support spiritual development spontaneously become enlivened from within their true self. This is how you can apply the seven spiritual laws in your everyday life.

Deepak

miguelito To the entire Chopra family. I am so moved by your kindness and compassion in the light of all of our great loss of a great man, greatly misunderstood. You all have stood by M.J. through all his trials and believed in him as you would a saint. For that your karmic repercussions will always be so very positive and float like a feather to where he is and let him know he was greatly loved by many. Bless you all for your kindness, thoughtfulness and your open hearts. Namaste, Miguel
