Governor Blagojevich's Blemish

The truth is that I’d never heard of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich before today. I probably couldn’t pronounce his name right if you paid me the same amount of money that he allegedly was trying to get for appointing the new Senator of Illinois.

Sadly…I believe I know the type. If indeed the allegations are true and what is alleged on the wiretaps actually exists, then the Governor belongs to the truly bipartisan club of corrupt bureaucrats that represent the very worst of American politics. More than just the incompetence of Washington that has been exposed in the last 8 years, Blagojevich it would appear is a throwback to the days of old New York and the Tammany Bosses like the infamous William “Boss” Tweed that made for the glory days when NYC was truly the ultimate gangland.  Then again, perhaps I am giving Dick Cheney and his cronies to much benefit of the doubt – they seem to have taken corruption and cronyism to new heights altogether.

But let’s not get off topic. In an ideal world, the scandal around Blagojevich will eventually just fill the well-worn annals of corrupt Chicago politics. However the elephant in the room is the other famous Illinois politician – President-elect Barack Obama. I think it’s safe to say THANK GOD this story didn’t break a little over a month ago. Seriously, can you imagine what the Right machine would have done with this ammo? Forget due process, the lynch mob would be marching already. And that’s with the presumption that there is no link here between Putin – I mean Blagojevich – and Obama, as his people have made clear is the case in their initial and immediate statements.

Truthfully, I don’t want to even speculate on the possibility of a link because the party hasn’t even started and that would be quite the buzz kill. Still, I am very sure others will. Because as reliable as corrupt officials are in American politics, so is the media feeding frenzy that inevitably follows.

Brace yourself.

In one context we owe Governor Blagojevich's some gratitude for this revelation. Everything happens perfectly. He has illustrated two things. 1. The need for total transparency, citizen oversight of government legislators and departments, and the need for measured authenticated citizen voice that carries the weight of a vote and creates a measure by which it can be determined if the representative is representing their constituents properly. 2. That there is a very good chance now of getting caught in any type of corruption that one may participate in, the truth has a tendency to leak onto the Internet. The SD ego is always involved in corruption and is known for it's propensity for ignorance and mistakes. Ego by it's nature has a hard time keeping secrets and cannot be trusted and will attempt revenge if crossed. The citizens have ears and eyes everywhere, sort of a like Big Uncle for individuals playing public sector roles and working in the large economy critical corporations. Like I said before we don

Blemish? More like a gangreous or maggot infested wound Chicago breeds those things and has for hundreds of years. As for Obama he would have escaped that too....Being from Chicago he seems to be one of the..."Untouchables." Peace, Razz

Well, as I read this post, I remembered seeing a link on google.com with the full story, as I wondered what it was. So as I was about to look for the link, the ex-cop next to me in a group at Starbucks shared a brief summary. And I just finished another segment of my DrivesEd.com class, which is how we found out that we had an ex-cop nearby, as another person was asking me why I was using my personal dial-up instead of WiFi - I lost internet connection after 20 minutes of class, but my place was remembered close to where I got kicked off, as I panicked. I think Deepak would call this synchronicity? Or it could be classified also under the 'ask and receive.' Cool! Cheers, Char

I do know of Rod Blagojevich and no, I'm not from Illinois. I'm on the right and consider it my job to be informed. I would have appreciated it if Gotham would have stuck to the matter at hand and not used it as an opportunity to attack the right and the Bush administration. Bush is on his way out, can't we just move on? By the way, there is a move to impeach Blago and revoke his right to appoint Obama's replacement. This action is being instituted by the left and is an infringement of due process, is it not? Right or left we are all Americans and corrupt politics hurts us all. Let's rejoice in the unity of being American regardless of political ideology. Thanks.

I heard someone say the scary thing is not that he was doing so much illegal stuff, it's that he got to where he is in the first place. I agree with that.
